History

The five breeds of unicorns have always been in opposition. No one quite knows the reason, and few enough care. They struggle out their lives being fed tales of the evil and foulness of the other breeds. A few have always managed to find connections that crossed the breed barrier and were hated for it. Then, one day, the leaders of the five largest herds of each breed, now known as “The Five,” held council and realized something: they rather liked these other rulers a good measure more than they liked or related to their own people. Thus, out of curiosity, they made a decision: They would see if peace could be made, somewhere within their influence, but far away from the territories of other unicorns. They sent scouts forth to find a setting for their “Great Experiment."

The scouts found, far south, in the floodplain of a mighty river, the ruins of a human town. The ruins they found were different: they looked less ancient than the 500 years humans had been extinct for. They decided that this place would be as fine as any, and declared any who wished to make a home were welcome, spreading the word, both of the land itself and its true intent, far and wide in an attempt to attract peoples of many different breeds.
Some wish it to succeed. Some long for it to fail. Others lust for free land and new lives. Whatever the case, whatever the reason, they come; people of all breeds and roles, trying to fulfill their goals, whatever they may be.
And whatever haunts the old ruins is something that will be faced when they come to it…or it to them.
