Rules

Out of Character

1. By playing on Nelle Rovine you agree to follow the site's rules. If it doesn't say you can't do something, feel free to do it; if it irritates us we'll ask you to stop and amend the rules, with no penalty to you. Banhammer of DOOM
2. The usual policy is three strikes, you're out: you will receive two warnings, and the third offense will result in the banning of your account. Incurring a second strike may merit another penalty, the nature of which is decided upon by the two admins.
3. Be respectful of other players, even if you dislike them or their characters. No flamewars, spamming, put-downs, et cetera.
4. Profanity is appropriate only for IN CHARACTER emphasis, not for shock value. Please don't curse OOC.
5. Only one account per player, please. Bandwidth is money.
6. Special characters created for the purpose of a single plot or mini-plot do not count towards the 5 character limit (and should have some brief profile posted in the "desperately seeking roleplay" section; nothing major, just a little bit of vital information), provided they will not be hanging around afterwards or given too-extensive characterization within the plot itself. They can be specifically attached to one player or allowed free reign, at the creator's specification.
7. Please email, IM, or otherwise inform Deme when you're adding a new character so she can voice her approval or comment on it for editing. Deme's AIM is DemeterDeme, her MSN and Email are baby_dragonet@hotmail.com
8. Please, log in at least once every 3 weeks. If you fail to adhere to this standard without a notification, we'll cry. That, and we will be allowed to do whatever we want with your characters until you return, as long as it serves a purpose (such as wounding or killing them for a plot, or turning them into a villain). Mares who are pregnant and inactive during their "due month" and into the next month will have a high chance of losing the baby. And we'll be crying the whole time, too. The best way to prevent this? Just tell everyone when it looks like you won't be able to be active in advance! It's pretty easy: "I have a lot of (blank) going on right now (or whatever, but this is what I hear most), so I may be going inacctive for a while." Simple, right?
9. Likewise, any member who doesn't make any posts of any type or anything within two weeks of their joining will be deleted. This, sadly, does not apply to members who joined before this rule was put in place: those get two months, as of this rule's creation. This is to cut down on wasted bandwidth.
10. When you apply, be on the look-out for an email. If there is an error in your application, we'll be contacting you through that (or some other mode of contact, if one is provided) to let you know.

General Roleplaying

1. Because we're roleplaying in a text-based medium, it's important that everyone can understand what you're saying. This means correct spelling and grammar, an adequate amount of description (avoid one-liners), NO chatspeak, and, preferably, a minimum of ye olde roleplay words (auds, pistons, optics, etc).
2. Please don't add totally random things to the game. Please. Feel free to improvise a little (we'll tell you if we want you to stop), but use your common sense.
3. Remember your character's culture. Your character may like it and adhere rigidly to it, or hate it and rebel against it (or, the wisest, somewhere in the middle), but it is an influence on their lives, and should affect how they interact with others. KP will be given and taken away based on that (see that Karma Points section)
4. One month of real time is equal to a season in game. When starting a new thread, please keep it in the current month's assigned season.
5. No godmoding, powerplaying, et cetera. It's annoying to read, and annoying to have to roleplay with.
6. In terms of in-character conflict...Don't be afraid to bruise the apples a little. Conflict is good. Conflict is interesting. If you're really worried about character death/bruised feelings (the latter of which is really more important), then contact the other player or players, and make what you're doing clear to them.

Mates and Breeding

1. No smut on the boards, please @____@ Keep it in PMs or somewhere we don't have to look at it.
2. Foals are born after two seasons. Deme (Arem) decides the foal's stats, so please send her a list of the parents' physical features, such as eye color, mane color, hoof type, etc.
3. Culturally speaking, mixed-breed relationships are frowned upon, as are mixed-breeds in general. This only applies to in-character judgments. Out of character, we don't care. We like designing babies of all sorts.

Fighting

1. Fights can break out anywhere--however, there's a place set aside for formal dueling. Keep your duels in the Battleground Lake if you want to get karma points for it.
2. Duels can be held for any reason and for any prize; if both parties agree it is possible to have a champion fight in your name. If the challenged character does not reply within one week real-time, without notification, the challenger wins automatically.
3. The player whose character is being attacked decides whether an attack hits: all the attacker can do is declare intent "aimed for the chest, with full ramming force to try and stab the heart..." et cetera. Unless it is in character with the fighters' skill, not every blow should miss. Realistic probability, my friends: use it.
4. Taken a lot of damage? Backed into a corner? One post away from being slaughtered? Sorry, but there's no get out of death free card: no OOC excuse is gonna cut it. You can set the IC rules before the fight so that there's no killing, you can decide with the other player that there's no killing, another character could intervene, you could try to run away. But all these things depend on the agreement of both characters' player, not just on the one about to get their character killed.
